My Corner

We did some bedroom rearranging and I created a masculine corner for myself. I included part of my Van Gogh collection, my retro gold chair (or “baby puke green”, as some would say), my Ikea dresser (inherited from an ex of an ex), and my Ikea nightstand. It’s very simple and “in place”. The other corner is girly, but nice.

Alison Krauss @ Edgefield

ak
Alison Krauss will be at Macmenamins Edgefield on July 5, and we got great seats: 8 rows back in the center. I saw her once in San Francisco, but it was a huge outdoor concert under the Golden Gate bridge and I didn’t hear much. This concert at the Edgefield will be more intimate and we’ll be much closer.

Dag Nasty - Values Here

dag
Dag Nasty was my favorite punk band. They had a mostly positive message and lots of energy. I’m not sure exactly what this song is about… values and confidence?
“fear of failure; fear of reprimand; two big problems I’ve never had; I never doubted what I had inside… what I have inside”

Handy Peeps

We’ve been doing quite a bit of home improvement lately. Among our latest handy work:

  • Installed a ceiling mounted storage rack in the garage
  • Put up new shelving and organizational furniture in the master closet
  • Installed hardwood floors and new molding in the master closet
  • Installed new light fixture in the master closet

Next on our list is to put in shelving in the “scrapbook room” closet.

Uniform Choice - Straight And Alert

uc
A classic straight edge song from one of my favorite 80s punk bands, Uniform Choice. They weren’t hugely popular, but I really like their anger and passion. This song is about how foolish and conformist it is to do drugs and get drunk.

Hungry Lucy - Could It Be

This is one of the first songs that I heard from Hungry Lucy, and it’s still my favorite.

Morrissey Torments

rott
Morrissey has announced his U.S. tour dates, and Portland is not on the list! He’s not even stopping in Oregon. There are cities on the list that I’ve never even heard of - but no Portland. His last show here was a huge success, and I know he has a loyal following here. My only theory is that Morrissey is trying to avoid Johnny Marr, who is currently calling Portland home. It’s all very sad.

Convergence 13

I’m debating whether or not to attend this year’s Convergence, which is here in Portland.

Convergence is an annual gothic-industrial festival, now in its 13th year. It is a chance for many goths and others who normally only meet on the Internet to come together in real life. Convergence is held in North America, in a different location each year voted on by previous attendees.

Once a goth, always a goth, eh? I would like to see some of the bands that are playing. Specifically, Skinny Puppy, Faith and the Muse, and FrontLine Assmebly. I wouldn’t care so much for the art and fashion, which brings to question the price of the event: $75.

Ministry - Unsung (Alternate Mix)

I’m going to start posting songs on occasion. As much as I listen to music, I occasionally come across a song that really moves me and I want to share it. Plus, delicious has this cool inline player script (click on the play arrow).
